<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of achieving the shortening of user's waiting time required until performing a printing job and the prolongation of the life of a polygon driving motor simultaneously. <P>SOLUTION: A ROM 302, a RAM 303 and a backup RAM 304 are connected to a CPU 301, and various components are connected thereto through an input/output port 306. When the value of a counter 305 for counting the cumulative number of starting times of a polygon driving motor exceeds a number-of-starting-times life warning value 503 in the precedent rotation control of the polygon driving motor by the CPU301, it is judged as a situation that the life of the polygon driving motor 102 is not long.
