<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem that a remarkable restriction on transporting performance is generated especially in a high-rise building equipped with a large number of floors. <P>SOLUTION: This invention relates to the elevator device comprising an elevator shaft 10 enabling at least one first elevator car 20 and second elevator car 30 to separately move upward/downward for serving destination calls, and a control device 40 deciding the elevator car 20, 30 suitable for serving destination calls; and the method of operating the elevator device.
