PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display apparatus which does not cause upsizing or the like while enabling excellent image display under various environments. SOLUTION: The display apparatus comprises: an image display means 2 for displaying an image in an image display area; a light detection means 3 which detects light intensity in the image display area or in the vicinity of the image display area by using a thin film transistor formed on a same substrate 1 as the image display means 2; and a light control circuit 5 for controlling luminance when the image display means 2 displays the image based on a result of the detection by the light detection means 3.
