PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress that a magnetic head is retracted frequently from the surface of a magnetic disk by suppressing retraction processing of a magnetic head for a ramp by detecting erroneously slight vibration or the like as drop. SOLUTION: The device is the magnetic disk device in which when a drop detection sensor detecting drop of a self storage device detects drop, a magnetic head positioned at the surface of the magnetic disk is moved to a movement destination position predetermined in the magnetic disk for retraction, it is discriminated whether a drop time of the self storage device is the first slice detection time or more or not based on the first slice detection time being variable based on the necessary time required for moving to the predetermined movement destination position, when discrimination is affirmation, control for moving the magnetic head to the movement destination position is performed for the first time.
