PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a raw wire for solid wires for manufacturing the solid wire for gas shielded arc welding which ensures excellent stability of arc by reducing very small variation of the arc voltage caused by the solid wire itself when welding. SOLUTION: The raw wire for solid wires has the composition which contains, by mass, 0.02-0.15% C, 0.1-1.0% Si, 0.5-2.0% Mn and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities, wherein ten or more Ca oxides and/or Al oxides of≥0.5μm in the maximum length are not present in nine places in total when observing by taking the visual-field area per place as 3.4×4.6μm<SP>2</SP>in nine places which are the center of a cross section and eight peripheral places having fixed intervals.
