PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method effective for the selection of guide dogs and useful for the development of guide dogs. SOLUTION: The invention provides a method for the selection of dogs having genetic characters beneficial for guide dogs. The method includes the investigation of single nucleotide polymorphism in the 216th base and/or the 482nd base of catechol O-methyl transferase gene of individual dog to be examined and the selection of a dog suitable for a guide dog based on the single nucleotide polymorphism existing in the gene.
