PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control ignition timing to that advanced to a maximum, rapidly in response to a change in a combustion property due to change of fuel pressure without causing knocking. SOLUTION: Whether an engine is in a high-load area or not is determined by comparing a basic injection pulse width Tp with a threshold. In the high load area of the engine, the supply pressure of fuel to a fuel injection vale is increased. Since vaporization performance is improved to improve knock resistance when the supply pressure of fuel is increased, the ignition timing is advance-corrected. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
