The present invention relates to a panel 20 for use in the assembly of a modular hot work habitat 10 so as to form an enclosure to facilitate hot working such as welding, cutting or grinding that generates sparks, and in certain environments can be extremely hazardous, particularly where there may be combustible gases present. The panels 20 comprise a first layer of a flexible structural material (22 figure 2), and a second layer of a flexible fireproof material (24 figure 2) fixed to the structural layer. The structural material may be a flame retardant polyvinylchloride (PVC) coated woven polyester, and the fire proof material may be silica chemically treated to create an amorphous silica coating on each side with a high temperature resisting silicone rubber. The layers are preferably stuck together by silicon adhesive as well as being fixed by mechanical fixings such as rivets, nuts, bolts and the like. Later embodiments relate to a habitat 10 comprising a plurality of interconnected panels, and a kit comprising a plurality of panels for assembling into a hot work habitat.
|
