<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To transcode a content easily and inexpensively in a transcoding system. <P>SOLUTION: Upon receiving a content acquisition request (S1), a hard disc recorder searches a content corresponding to a URI included in the content acquisition request from an HDD, and judges whether the format attribute of this content is identical to that included in this content acquisition request or not (S2). If the format attribute of content to acquire is not identical (NO at S3), the hard disc recorder transmits a transcode request including content and format attribute corresponding to the URI and a forward request to a network server (S4).
