PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a human Notch gene, Delta gene and their encoded proteins which play important roles in development/differentiation of neuronal cells, and to provide fragments including an antigenic determinant of the protein or functionally active.

SOLUTION: The invention relates to the following genes and proteins prepared by genetic engineering techniques: (1) human Notch, Delta, Serrate gene, and their encoded proteins respectively: (2) a fragment (referred to as "adhesion fragment") of a protein (referred to as "toporythmicprotein") encoded by a toporythmic gene which mediates homotypic or heterotypic bonding to a toporythmicprotein: (3) antibodies against human Notch gene and the adhesion fragment: and (4) a drug delivery system utilizing the prescribed proteins and fragments.
