PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multiplex communication system in which the same electronic control units (ECUs) can be applied to even vehicles whose specifications differ from one another, so that a time and cost for developing the ECUs can be saved. SOLUTION: In the in-vehicle multiplex communication system configured by connecting the electronic control units by communication lines, the electronic control unit with a particular function not needed depending on the specification of the mounted vehicle among the electronic control units is configured of a control means and a communication means, when the specification of the vehicle requires the electronic control unit with the particular function, the electronic control unit comprising the control means and the communication means is connected to the communication lines, and when the specification of the vehicle does not require the electronic control unit with the particular function, the electronic control unit comprising only the communication means without the control means is connected to the communication lines.
