According to a method for recording data onto an optical disc, a recording pulse corresponding to a long mark contains a combination of a head pulse and subsequent intermediate pulse. The level of the head pulse indicates the first recording power and the level of the intermediate pulse indicates the second recording power. When an optical disc includes a plurality of recording layers, the ratio of the second recording power against the first recording power is decided for each of the recording layers. When the recording speed is variable, the ratio of the second recording power against the first recording power is decided for each of the recording speed.
