<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved distance measuring camera for substantially simultaneously providing depth information from all pixels in one scene. <P>SOLUTION: This device for generating the image indicating the distance to an object in a scene comprises a transmitted radiation source having a first modulation function and so modulated that transmitted radiation moves toward the scene, a detector having a detection modulator, a second modulation function, and a detection array containing multiple detection elements, detecting the radiation reflected from segments with intervals parallel with each other in the scene, and generating the signals in response to the distance to the area of the scene according to the detected transmitted radiation, and a processor containing at least some of the segments at intervals and forming the images having an intensity distribution indicating the distance from the device to the object. Each of the segments at intervals has a distance limit from the device. The distance limit is determined by the detection modulator.
