PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging device which can prevent incorrect detection and failure of detection of a face image, and also to provide its controlling method. SOLUTION: An object is imaged to acquire CCD-RAW data (step 51), and a face image is extracted from a RAW object image (step 52). Signal processing including YC data production processing is performed on the CCD-RAW data (step 53), and a face image is extracted from a YC object image (step 54). Using the face image obtained from the RAW object image and the face image obtained from the YC object image, incorrect detection suppression processing (step 55) and failure-of-detection suppression processing (step 56) are performed to obtain face information indicating the position of a final face image.
