PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image area tracking device to which templates are added by being adapted to deformation etc. SOLUTION: An image area tracking system 1 is characterized by having an optimal template selection part 5, a template addition part 7 and a template deletion part 9, constituted of an image input part 2, a template tracking part 3, a previous parameter recording part 6, a template addition part 7, a template recording part 8 and a template deletion part 9, records information generated by uniting (1) templates, (2) parameters of the templates and (3) information about the number of generations of the templates, applies the recorded templates to an image this time in time-series images while exchanging the template and varying a plurality of parameters, calculates degrees of similarity between the image this time and each template, compares a threshold with the degrees of similarity of each template, respectively, extracts the optimal parameter by the degrees of similarity, generates templates and adds them.
