The method involves measuring the state variables e.g. throttle flap angle and engine rotational speed of the motorcycle. A start of the motorcycle is detected on the basis of an analysis of the state variables. The temporal derivation of the state value engine rotational speed is determined for the analysis of the state value. An independent claim is also included for a device for detecting the initiation of the starting process of a motorcycle by a ride.
