<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for managing an effective period and for erasing information of which the effective period has expired to prevent a copied medium from being used for unintended applications against the intention of a copyright holder, when permitting temporary recording or copying information of which copying is prohibited or is permitted only once. <P>SOLUTION: In a digital information recording device, a holding period for indicating the effective period in the recording medium, a viewing period for indicating the effective period after starting reproduction, and a copying period for permitting copying to other media are set as permission conditions of temporary recording. It is permitted that even those of which copying is prohibited to be moved to other media supposing that information in the medium is erased. Those of which the effective period has expired are erased according to a prescribed rule.
