PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent liquid compression, caused by the generation of a liquid refrigerant in a compressor intake pipe in a refrigeration cycle without a gas-liquid separator. SOLUTION: The air conditioner has the refrigeration cycle comprising at least of a compressor 1, a heat-source-side heat exchanger 2, a throttling mechanism 3, a use-side heat exchanger 4, piping 6 connecting the compressor, heat-source-side heat exchanger, throttling mechanism and use-side heat exchanger, and blowers 4 and 5. The compressor is operated according to the pressure of the refrigerant on the intake side of the compressor while the air conditioner is stopped. Accordingly, since the refrigerant on the intake side of the compressor will not liquidize, the trouble in the compressor, caused by the liquid compression can be reduced ant the reliability of the air conditioner, can be improved.
