PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus which is capable of normally detecting dust in spite of a configuration that changes in light quantity of one light source can influence the other read sensor. SOLUTION: In the image reading apparatus 100, dust detection control of a sensor requiring a longer time for dust detection is started first in the case that a dust detection control time of a sensor in an upstream side (CCD linear sensor 208) out of two sensors and that of a sensor in a downstream side (CIS 308) are different from each other. Then, both light sources (lamps 308 and 327) are simultaneously extinguished after the completion of dust detection control of both sensors. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
