PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a clamp unit which does not require a large escape space for the tie bar and a large pull-out device in pulling out the tie bar and permits a simple and easy pull-out operation. SOLUTION: In general, a clamp unit is arranged in a way that it freely advances and retreats the moving platen relative to the stationary platen along the tie bar inserted in the tie bar insertion holes installed on the stationary and moving platens. The clamp unit of this invention is characterized in that (a) after closing the mold by pressing the moving platen against the stationary platen, a first engaging means which engages the engaging part formed at the edge of the tie bar on the side of the moving platen is provided in the tie bar insertion hole of the moving platen, (b) a second engaging means which engages the engaging part formed at the edge of the tie bar on the side of the stationary platen is removably provided at the end of the clamping piston by using a removably engaging means, (c) a pressing means which further presses the closed moving platen against the stationary platen in cooperation with the tie bar is provided in the tie bar insertion hole of the stationary platen and (d) a tie bar pull-out means connecting with the edge of the tie bar on the side of the stationary platen is provided on the surface opposite to the mold-attaching surface of the stationary platen.
