When a group to which a mobile station belongs is called according to a paging indicator channel transmitted from a base station, the mobile station generates a random access channel containing information indicating a response to the paging indicator channel and transmits the random access channel. The base station detects the random access channel as the response to the paging indicator channel. According to the result of detection of the random access channel, the base station judges whether to generate paging information. According to the judgment result, the base station generates paging information.
