A hydrogen generating composition is provided to be economical and conveniently carried, an apparatus is provided to generate hydrogen safely and economically using the hydrogen generating composition, and an apparatus for generating hydrogen is provided to produce hydrogen in such a high purity that enables hydrogen to be used for fuel cells. An apparatus(1) for generating hydrogen includes: a reaction container(4) containing a hydrogen generating composition(5) comprising 40 to 70 wt.% of a calcium oxide(CaO) powder, 2 to 20 wt.% of a calcium chloride(CaCl2), magnesium chloride(MgCl2) or sodium bicarbonate(NaHCO3) powder, 6.7 to 30 wt.% of an aluminum(Al) or alumina(Al2O3) powder, and 0.001 to 10 wt.% of an iron or magnesium powder; and a water supply part(15) for introducing water into the reaction container, and a hydrogen exhaust part(2) for exhausting hydrogen generated from the reaction container. The hydrogen generating composition is packed in a water-permeable pouch. The water supply part includes a spray for spraying water supplied from a water supply pump(7) onto the hydrogen generating composition. The hydrogen exhaust part is connected to a hydrogen storage container(3), and hydrogen exhausted from the hydrogen storage container passes through at least one selected from a water removing device(9), an oxygen removing device(10), and a hydrogen separation membrane(11). |
