A liquid crystal aligning agent comprising an imidized polymer is provided to obtain a liquid crystal aligning layer realizing a high pretilt angle and excellent aligning uniformity and baking characteristics. A liquid crystal aligning agent comprises a polymer having repeating units represented by the following formula 1a and repeating units represented by the following formula 1b, wherein the repeating units represented by formula 1a is present in a ratio of 60-90 wt% based on the combined weight of the repeating units represented by formulae 1a and 2a, and the repeating units represented by formula 1b comprises at least one repeating unit selected from the group consisting of repeating units represented by the following formulae A-F in an amount of 5-100 mol%. In the formulae, each of P1 and P2 represents a tetravalent organic group, and each of Q1 and Q2 represents a divalent organic group.
