<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the occurrence of burst errors even in such a case that an incorrect path is continuously selected in a viterbi algorithm. <P>SOLUTION: A computation unit 42 computes a difference between replica signals formed by a replica forming unit 40 and receiving signals. A branch metrics deriving unit 44 which derives a set of branch metrics from the difference, and a state transition estimating unit 46 estimates transmission signals corresponding to the receiving signals by performing the maximum likelihood sequence estimation on the basis of a set of branch metrics. A transmission line characteristic estimating unit 48 updates transmission line characteristics on the basis of the estimated transmission signals and the difference, and outputs the updated transmission line characteristics to the replica forming unit 40. The replica forming unit 40 forms replica signals using the transmission line characteristics outputted from the transmission line characteristics estimating unit 48, and a comparison unit 50 stops the transmission line characteristics estimating unit 48 from updating transmission line characteristics when the difference becomes larger than a threshold value. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
