<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a lens surface shutter capable of preventing not only the damage of a lens surface, but also the contamination of the lens surface due to cloud toner. <P>SOLUTION: When a shutter part 68 is moved to a lens surface exposing position from a lens surface protecting position, by shaking the shutter part 68 in an arcuate state centered about the base parts 64B and 66B of linking member 64 and 66 using a linking mechanism, felt 72 slides or the lens surface (surface) of a density sensor 60 to move away from the lens surface. Accordingly, the friction load on the lens surface can be reduced, as compared with the case where the felt 72 as moved in parallel to the lens surface and the lens surface can be made difficult to damage.
