At this time, each light source 11 is disposed so as to almost conjugate to an optical pupil E. Each optical axis adjustment means 15 alters the positional relation without altering the position of the optical pupil E relative to the eyepiece optical system 21. Thus, even if the apparatus is originally designed so that light intensity is high in the position of the optical pupil E determined in the design stage, the light intensity at the position of the pupil can be obtained even after the adjustment of the optical axis. Since the positions of the optical pupils E relative to the eyepiece optical systems 21 are not changed by the adjustment of the optical axes, video light can be guided to the optical pupils E by using portions of the eyepiece optical systems 21, which are designed to restrain aberrations.
