PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an underground space construction method in which an image of a wide underground space can be created, and the underground space can be constructed in a short construction period, and to provide the underground space constructed in the method. SOLUTION: In the underground space construction method, steel pipes 7a curved in the form of projections toward the ground are inserted into the ground 2 above an area where the underground space 1 is to be constructed, for setting a curved pipe roof 25, and tie rods 37 are inserted into the ground 2 under the curved pipe roof 25, followed by forming support bodies 41 for supporting both ends of the curved pipe roof 25. Then a screw portion is formed at each end of each tie rod 37, and a nut 51 is screwed into the screw portion and fastened, to apply a tensile force to the tie rod 37, followed by excavating an area under the curved pipe roof 25 in a manner resisting a horizontal force applied from the pipe roof 25 to the support bodies 41, to thereby construct the underground space 1.
