PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inkjet recording apparatus in which paper jamming and paper stain generated due to deformation of the paper is eliminated in accordance with the placement direction of the paper. SOLUTION: A sensor for detecting the dimensions of the paper in the vertical direction and the lateral direction is provided. When the placement direction of the paper is detected to be lateral with respect to the transporting direction, paper deformation countermeasure operations such as widening the gap between an inkjet recording head and the paper, reducing the ink discharge amount, and elongating the waiting time between forward scanning and reverse scanning of the recording head.
