The invention relates to a microwave sterilizer for pasteurizing or sterilizing substances, preferably drinks or liquid food in hermetically sealed containers, preferably cans or bottles, of mainly non-metallic consistence, said sterilizer having at least one pasteurization compartment, especially for preheating, heating and optionally cooling, and at least one microwave generator connected thereto, and a device for transporting the items to be sterilized through the pasteurization compartment. The invention is characterized in that a plurality of heating compartments of the above kind are arranged one behind the other in the direction of transport of the containers in the form of a tunnel (45). The respective pasteurization compartments (45) have the form of a tunnel comprising heating sections into which at least one respective microwave generator injects microwaves, especially from below, at least one transport device (18) for introducing and discharging the items to be sterilized (13) extending through the heating compartments that are arranged one behind the other. |
