The present invention provides the use of a polypeptide comprising an ami no acid sequence according to SEQ ID NO: 1 (corresponding to the N-terminal 25 amino acid fragment of the human antimicrobial protein, LL-37) or a biolo gically active fragment, variant, fusion or derivative thereof, in the prepa ration of a medicament for the treatment of cancer. In particular, the inven tions provides the use such polypeptides, or a fragment, variant, fusion or derivative thereof, to inhibit the proliferation and/or metastasis of cancer cells, such as breast cancer cells. The invention further comprises methods for the treatment of cancer in a patient.
