An apparatus and a method for detecting a position of a stack guide and a stack roller are provided to separate a stack guide and a stack roller from a bill convey path when dispensing bills to stably implement a bill dispensing function. An apparatus for detecting a position of a stack guide and a stack roller includes a stack roller contacted at an outer peripheral portion of a lower side of a feed roller feeding received bills. The stack roller includes a plurality of wing parts striking a back end of bills to stack and arrange bills. The stack roller is installed in such a manner that the wing part is separated from a bill convey path when dispensing bills. A stack guide is coupled at a rotating axis of the feed roller. The stack guide rotates to a lower direction when receiving bills, and to an upper direction when dispensing bills. A position detecting unit detects each position of the stack guide and the stack roller.
