PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To represent an infrared remote control pass-through protocol in the content directory service of a media server that transmits an audio-video media stream over the network. SOLUTION: A CDS includes a list of media content items representing media supply source devices 30, 31 supplying media contents to a media server 10 and a list of IR pass-through protocol identifiers related for each media content item. Each IR pass-through protocol identifier identifies an IR pass-through encode/decode protocol available for an IR decoder within the media server 10. In the media server 10, an RC command is decoded using the same IR pass-through protocol and then transmitted by infrared rays to the media supply source devices 30, 31 for controlling operations of the media supply source devices 30, 31.
