PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for industrially advantageously producing a high quality xylylenediamine having a low cyanobenzylamine content. SOLUTION: This method for producing xylylene diamine sequentially comprises a process of obtaining a reaction product (A) by subjecting a mixed liquid consisting of a phthalonitrile, liquid ammonia or liquid ammonia with an organic solvent and having≥80 wt.% content of liquid ammonia or the liquid ammonia and the organic solvent under a first catalytic hydrogenation for hydrogenating the phthalonitrile, a process of removing the liquid ammonia in the reaction product (A) to obtain a reaction product (B), a process of obtaining a reaction product (C) by subjecting the reaction product (B) under a second catalytic hydrogenation for hydrogenating the cyanobenzylamine and a process of distilling the reaction product (C) for purifying the xylylenediamine.
