A portable terminal having a movable keypad housing is provided to improve the convenience of manipulation by making a keypad, which is opened and closed by a sliding housing, level with one side of the sliding housing when a portion of one side of a main housing is opened. A portable terminal(100) comprises a main housing(101), a keypad housing(103), and a driving part. The keypad housing(103) is installed at the main housing(101) so as to ascend and descend. The driving part is installed between the main housing(101) and the keypad housing(103). The driving part, composed of magnets(117,137), provides power to rise the keypad housing(103) to one side of the main housing(101). Guide slots(113) are formed at the inner lateral of the main housing, and guide bosses(133) are formed at the lateral of the keypad housing(103). Each of the guide slots(113) consists of an slope period(113a) and a support period(113b). When the keypad housing ascends to one side of the main housing(101), the guide bosses(133) are placed in the support periods of the guide slots(113).
