A honeycomb structure body where an influence of thermal stress occurring in use and in recovery is eased to prevent an occurrence of defect such as cracks etc. caused by the thermal stress, and that is advantageous for use as an exhaust gas collection filter, and more particularly, as a diesel particulate filter (DPF) for collecting particulate matters etc. in exhaust gases from a diesel engine. The honeycomb structure body (1) has a honeycomb segment joint body (10) where honeycomb segments (2) are integrally joined at the surfaces where they are joined with joining material layers (9) in between, and has an outer peripheral coating layer (4). The thickness of a joining material layer (9) is constructed to satisfy the relationship of (T2) = (1.2 to 10.0) x (T1), where T1 is an average thickness of a honeycomb segment (2), at places (X1, X2) located at both ends in the center axis direction of the honeycomb segment (2), and T2 is the maximum thickness in a section between points (Y1, Y2) away from both ends, respectively, of the honeycomb segment (2) by 3% to 40% of the entire length of the honeycomb segment (2). |
