<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing optically active 4-amino-3-substituted phenylbutanoic acids, which are useful as medicines, represented by (R)-4-amino-3-(4-chlorophenyl)butanoic acid, by a method being safe, efficient, also advantageous in industrial scale. <P>SOLUTION: A compond (R)- or (S)-4-amino-3-(substituted phenyl) butanoic acid is obtained by such a method that hydrate crystal of β-nitrostyrenes is dissolved or dispersed in a solvent, it is reacted with a dialkyl malonate after operations for separation and/or vacuum concentration, an (R)- or (S)-2-(1-(substituted phenyl)-2-nitroethyl) dialkyl malonate is obtained in a solution or slurry state without being isolated, it is subjected to reduction reaction and cyclization reaction to obtain (R)- or (S)-3,4-substituted-2-oxopyrrolidine, then it is dissolved or dispersed in a solvent and added to an acid. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
