PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display apparatus the convenience of which can be enhanced. SOLUTION: The television receiver 1 as the image display apparatus includes a display section 5, a speaker 6, an operating panel 3, and a control unit 7 for controlling the display section 5, the speaker 6, and the operating panel 3. The control unit 7 includes: a depression state detection section 751 for detecting a depressing state of a plurality of operation keys 31; and a sound volume adjustment control section 752 for executing sound volume adjustment control for adjusting a sound volume of sound generated from the speaker 6 when the depression state detection section 751 detects that sound volume adjustment keys 312, 313 are depressed among the operation keys 31. The sound volume adjustment control section 752 switches an ordinary mode for generating sound from the speaker 6 into a silencing mode for stopping the production of sound when the depression state detection section 751 detects that at least two operation keys 31 are simultaneously depressed among the plural operation keys 31.
