PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic camera capable of adequately adjusting focus regardless of hand shake. SOLUTION: A driver 16 moves a focus lens 12 in the direction of an optical axis by each set width. The AF evaluation value of a field image captured by the imaging face of an image sensor 14 is acquired by an AF evaluation circuit 26 parallel to such a lens moving process. A CPU 44 detects the maximum AF evaluation value from among the plurality of AF evaluation values acquired in relation to the lens moving process following the common set width. In addition, the CPU 44 divides the maximum AF evaluation valueβdetected in relation to the setting of a step width W2 by the maximum AF evaluation valueαdetected in relation to the setting of a step width W1 (>W2). When the divided valueβ/αbelongs to the range of an existing constant value, a focusing position is specified based on the maximum AF evaluation valuesαandβ. When the divided valueβ/αis below the range of the existing constant value, the lens moving process following the step width W2 is resumed.
