PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pneumatic tire for improving the rollover preventing performance of a vehicle while maintaining braking performance. SOLUTION: The pneumatic tire whose mounting direction is specified comprises: a pair of bead portions 3; sidewall portions 2 extending from the bead portions 3 to the outsides in a tire radial direction; and a tread portion 1 provided between the sidewall portions 2. On the inside of the tread portion 1 during on-vehicle mounting, a round shoulder 1a is formed. On the outside thereof during on-vehicle mounting, a stepped shoulder 1b is formed which has a stepped portion 20 resulting in a non-grounding portion 23 on the outside of the stepped portion 20. A boundary 21 between the stepped portion 20 and a tread surface 1c is arranged at a distance from a tread center C with a tire maximum width W as a criterion, namely, at a distance D2 which is 93-110% of a distance D1 to a grounding end TEi on the side of the round shoulder in front wheel mounting conditions.
