PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device which is provided with a transmissive display function and which has excellent display quality.

SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device has an active area DSP which comprises pixels PX with a matrix shape, and a light shielding area SLD which surrounds the active area DSP, is equipped with: an array substrate AR provided with pixel electrodes EP arranged on respective pixels; a counter substrate CT provided with color filters 34 arranged corresponding to the respective pixels and a counter electrode ET arranged so as to cover the color filters 34 and extended from the active area DSP to an area which is at least a part of the light shielding area SLD; and a liquid crystal layer LQ held between the array substrate AR and the counter substrate CT, and is characterized in that the pixel electrode EP(E) of a pixel PE(E) arranged on an edge of the active area and the color filter 34(E) arranged thereon are extended closer to the light shielding area side than a boundary B between the active area DSP and the light shielding area SLD.
