PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact image pickup device capable of switching an imaging sensitivity in accordance with brightness of an object. SOLUTION: The image pickup device comprises: an image sensing element 11 for imaging an object; a liquid crystal filter 10 which is installed between the object and the image sensing element 11 and cuts off incident light of a specific wavelength band from the object; and a liquid crystal driving device 12 for applying a voltage to the liquid crystal filter 10. The liquid crystal filter 10 includes transparent substrates 1a, 1b, 1c with transparent electrodes 2a, 2b, 2c, 2d forme on at least one side, and liquid crystal layers 3a, 3b which are held between the transparent substrates 1a, 1b, 1c and in which transmissivity with respect to the incident light of the specific wavelength band is changed in accordance with the voltage, applied by the liquid crystal driving device 12, between the transparent electrodes 2a, 2b, 2c, 2d.
