LIGHT SOURCE UNIT FOR HEAT-ASSISTED MAGNETIC RECORDING

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means for avoiding a decrease in total manufacturing yield of a head whose integrated surface and ABS are perpendicular to each other due to characteristic evaluation of a light source while the light source is installed at a distance from the ABS. SOLUTION: The light source unit for heat-assisted magnetic recording is provided with: a unit substrate having an adhesion surface to be bonded to the surface of a slider opposite to the ABS; the light source provided on the unit substrate; a propagation layer provided on an element formation surface perpendicular to the adhesion surface of the unit substrate and including an optical path of light emitted by the light source; and a lens unit provided to the propagation layer to adjust propagation of the light emitted by the light source.
