PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a neutral face generation method capable of generating strongly and surely a neutral face from a volume data of an object, using a computer, capable of dispensing with handling of a large-scale data, and capable of reducing a calculation load, and a program therefor. SOLUTION: The neutral face generation method has a characteristic data calculation step S2 of finding a characteristic value corresponding to a thickness of a specified material, based on a covariance of the specified materials in a specified cell and a plurality of cells adjacent thereto, in the every specified cell positioned in a position including an inner side of a boundary data 1 of the specified material and a boundary face thereof, and a characteristic vector corresponding to the characteristic value along a thickness direction; a distance calculating step S3 of calculating a positive-directional distance and a negative-directional distance up to the cell other than the specified cell along a direction of the characteristic vector, in every of the respective specified cells, and a neutral face generation step S4 of selecting the specified cell having a difference between the positive-directional distance and the negative-directional distance of prescribed threshold or less, as a neutral cell, and for connecting the neutral cells therein to generate the neutral face.
