PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recorder which can prevent staining of a platen because of idle striking in the recorder equipped with a manual feeding path which supplies a recording medium through manual insertion, and to provide a control method of the recorder. SOLUTION: The control method includes a start locating step (step S12) of locating the start of a paper P1 supplied by the manual feeding path C, a detecting step (step S14) of detecting the presence or absence of the paper P1 again after the start locating step, and a printing step (step S15) of carrying out printing processing when the paper P1 is detected in the detecting step.
