A display device and an illumination method thereof are provided to save manufacturing costs by individually irradiating red light, green light and blue light, which have different wave lengths without additional white light separation device. A display device comprises: a red light source(110), a green light source(120) and a blue light source(130), optical waveguides(111,121,131) passing light irradiated from the light sources and transparent LCD panels(113,123,133) formed in outlets of the optical waveguides, a polarizing beam splitter and a half-wave plate equipped on respective light sources, which polarize the light irradiated from respective light sources, a reflective polarizing plate reflecting light of a first polarizing direction, and a reflection plate equipped on a rear surface of the light source, which reflects the light reflected from the reflective polarizing plate. |
