A recording apparatus and a transfer method are provided to correct a transfer error varied according to a relative position of a head and a medium accurately based on a transfer quantity. A recording apparatus includes a head, a transfer mechanism, a memory, and a controller. The transfer mechanism transfers a medium for the head in a transfer direction according to a target transfer quantity. The memory stores a plurality of correction values corresponding to relative positions of the head and the medium. The controller corrects the target transfer quantity based on correction values according to the target transfer quantity, which include a correction value according to a relative position when the medium is transferred in the target transfer quantity and controls the transfer mechanism based on the corrected target transfer quantity.
