An external electrode fluorescent lamp is provided to improve efficiency of an electrode and to reduce pin holes by forming a first external electrode with a conductive metal of a molybdenum(Mo) material and a second external electrode with a nickel(Ni) material. An external electrode fluorescent lamp(100) includes a glass tube(112), a discharge tube(110), a first external electrode(120), and a second external electrode(122). A fluorescent material is applied to the glass tube. After a gas mixture made of filling gas(116) and a tiny amount of hydrargyrum(Hg) is filled in the glass tube, the glass tube is sealed to configure the discharge tube. The filling gas is comprised of neon(Ne) and argon(Ar). The first external electrode made of a molybdenum material is formed at both ends of the discharge tube. The second external electrode made of a nickel material is formed to surround the first external electrode. The external electrode fluorescent lamp is electrically connected to an inverter(118) that generates a driving voltage for driving the external electrode fluorescent lamp.
