A backlight unit and an LCD using the same are provided to enlarge the light emitting area of lamps and generate uniform brightness regardless of positions of the lamps, by respectively winding two electrodes for supplying voltages to the lamps around each of the lamps in a coil type. A plurality of lamps(112) are disposed in an inner space of a bottom cover(102), wherein an upper side of the bottom cover is opened. An optical member is disposed above the lamps. At least one lamp guide(126) is formed on the bottom cover, wherein the lamp guide includes a holding portion for holding each lamp and a support portion for supporting the optical member. A first common electrode(113a) is formed at first sides of the lamps to supply a first voltage to the lamps. A second common electrode(113b) is formed at second sides of the lamps to supply a second voltage, which has a voltage difference with respect to the first voltage, to the lamps. A first external electrode(112a) is connected to the one side of the first common electrode while the first external electrode winds around each of the lamps in a coil type. A second external electrode(112b) is connected to the other side of the second common electrode while the second external electrode winds around each of the lamps in a coil type. |
