The method involves providing a machine tool (10) with a tool retainer (12) for accommodating an operating tool (20), and providing a tool magazine (32) with bearings (34), which are loaded with cutting tools in a spatial sequence to each other. Workpieces (24, 30) are provided with a defined timing sequence of cutting tools, where a previous cutting tool clamped in the tool retainer is replaced by a following cutting tool in the run of the timing sequence. The previous cutting tool is distributed in another spatial sequence on the bearings, when it is put back into the tool magazine. An independent claim is also included for a device for machining processing a metallic workpiece.
