A hermetic type compressor is provided to prevent abrasion at a sliding part caused by foreign matters by contraction of outer diameter at the end of a fitted part of an oil pickup member when the outer diameter is fitted into a fitting hole, which prevents scratch of inner wall of the fitting hole forming burrs. A hermetic type compressor comprises a driving unit, a compression unit, and a rotary shaft(40). The driving unit provides compression driving force of refrigerant into a hermetic vessel defined with an oil storing space on the bottom side. The compression unit is driven by the driving unit to perform compression of the refrigerant. The rotary shaft transfers driving force of the driving unit to the compression unit. The rotary shaft comprises an oil path(42) to guide oil in the oil storing space to the compression unit and a sliding part of the driving unit, and a fitting hole(43) provided on a lower end of the rotary shaft for insertion of a cylindrical oil pickup member(60) which picks up oil in the oil storing space to the oil path. A contraction of an outer diameter at the end of a fitting part(61) of the oil pickup member occurs when the end portion of the fitting part is inserted into the fitting hole.
